We would like to share these tips on how to take care of your accessories. Genuine or faux, expensive or not --- you can apply these tips to lengthen the life of your precious jewels.

Proper care of your accessories will help extend the life of your little treasures, and it's not difficult to do. Here are some general tips on how to take care of your accessories :

» Store your jewelry or accessories separately so it doesn't scratch other jewelry.

» Apply makeup, perfume and hairspray before putting on your jewelry. Avoid spraying  cologne or perfumes with jewelry on as it will also make contact with your jewelry.

» Remove jewelry when doing household tasks.

» Store jewelry away from sunlight. Some gemstones fade in time due to exposure to the sun.

» Store metal jewelry in resealable plastic or jewelry bags to help prevent or slow down tarnish.

» Store jewelry with pearls or opals in fabric instead of plastic bags as these stones need to "breathe".

» After each wear, gently wipe jewelry with 100% cotton cloth to remove makeup and skin oils.

» Some jewelry (like those made from sterling silver) can be washed in soapy warm water but make sure they are dried completely and carefully before storing.

» Polish metals gently using a soft jewelry polishing cloth.

» Whatever you do, do it gently.

For those of you buying accessories with BRASS components like pendants or  the actual accessory itself like a bracelet or ring, we are sharing these tips on how to clean brass and bring the luster back to your accessory.

How To Clean Brass Accessories

Clean with brass polish.
As we all know, brass will eventually lose its luster but all you need to do is shine them with any brass polish (we got ours from a handyman hardware store). But apply brass polish very thinly using a soft cloth so as not to leave any excess white liquid in between the intricate design of your accessory. Always wipe them with a clean cloth after use and put them inside zip lock plastics to help slow down the oxidation process brought by exposure to air. Do not spray with perfume.

Wash the brass with soapy water.
If the brass is simply dirty or oily, mix a mild detergent with warm water, dip a soft cloth into the soapy water, and wipe the piece down with the cloth. Use a toothbrush to get to hard to reach places or inside the lines of delicate engravings. Brush gently to avoid damaging the engraving.
